DELL EMC VXRAIL MANAGEMENT PACK FOR VREALIZE OPERATIONS

Hi Team,

Want to understand the “DELL EMC VXRAIL MANAGEMENT PACK FOR VREALIZE OPERATIONS".

  1. What minimum level of vCenter Access is required to configure the MP?
  2. What are the associated Objects and Object Type? Are there going to be new objects created when valid integration is done?
  3. How to verify if the adapter is configured properly and is associated objects?

The documentation only tells that we need to use vCenter Credentials and their are some 65 event based alerts that are propagated from vCenter to vROPs.

Dear LucD,

thanks for your suggestion - unfortunately by the result it it's not exactly what I'm looking for.

Your assumption is right to browse within the Category "Backup", nevertheless is the output in Powershell ISE cut off and not exactly what I meant.

Please don't worry as of yet, I'll try to create an example.
I know you most likely find better ways to create the query and gather the info but I'm really looking more for the programming part of this.

I'll refine my previous posts and add something; now I'm in a hurry, sadly, but thanks again, I'll pick this up asap.

Hey vSohill,

I would recommend you to delete some old logs and in case you have any Syslog to redirect them there.

Please keep monitoring this as it could be possible that the rotation of your logs stopped working. There was an issue previously in NSX-T related with the root password to be expired but as you have version 3.0 this should not be affecting you. However here is the KB that describes the issue for you to have it: VMware Knowledge Base

Re: Conversion from vSAN Snapshots to VMFS6 compatible Snapshots (vsansparse to sesparse)?

Hey noobnoob71,

If i understood well you want to copy the Snapshot file from vSAN to VMFS. That is not possible to do even vSAN to vSAN or VMFS to VMFS. It is not possible just to move the Snapshot manually.

If you have a VM with an Snapshot in vSAN and you want to do an Storage vMotion or a cloning of that VM that is possible but the Snapshot will be consolidated as part of that process.

However you can specify a different datastore for Snapshot location but i could not find any documentation if it is supported to dedicate a VMFS Datastore for snapshots if your VM is in vSAN or viceversa. Here is the KB detailing the whole process: VMware Knowledge Base

vSAN File Service Configuration Fails with "General vSAN error. com.vmware.vsan.clustermgmt.fileservice.msg.dvsconfigissue"

Hi,

I am trying to test vSAN File Services in my lab and I am getting the above error during the configuration.

I am running vCenter Server version 7.0 build 16620013 and my 3 nested hosts are running ESXi version 7.0 build 16324942.

For completeness, this cluster was deployed on 6.5u1 and was then upgraded to 6.7u3 and finally to 7.0.

vSAN is configured and working just fine in all other respects.

I have created a vDS port group specifically for vSAN File Services. The error is suggesting this is the issue, but it's just a standard port group.

I have created A Records (with PTR's) in my DNS for the 3 appliances.

The error appears within about 5 seconds of starting the reconfigure task.:

Does any one have any ideas?

As always, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

M

Hi Lieven,

After implementing the workaround, what exactly is the failure mode if printer mapping does not work correctly? Same as before, as in: async FlexEngine.exe instance hangs, or something else?

Does this seem related to a particular printer? Can you "divide and conquer", by temporarily disabling individual printer mappings in DEM to see if there's a particular problematic one?

How do elevated tasks fail? Does DEM's log indicate success with running your logon task and the referenced elevated task, but does the script not have the intended effect?

If you launch that batch file from a command prompt that you have elevated "manually" (as in, Run as Administrator via standard Windows functionality), does it always work?

BTW, refreshing does not serve a purpose here, unless you have modified elevated task definitions in the Management Console in the meantime.

Hey bradelms,

As i can see you are trying to follow this KB for vSphere Lifecycle Manager which has been introduced in vSphere 7: VMware Knowledge Base

What you need to do is really easy just copy the downloaded files inside the vCenter Server Appliance using WinSCP or Filezilla or any tool you are familiar with to copy files. Once inside the VCSA go to the location where you copied the files an execute the .sh file using the next command: ./cleanup_patch_store.sh

The KB does not detail anything about permissions to be assigned to the file so i just assume that is missing. If you cannot run the file with the previously mentioned command first run chmod +x cleanup_patch_store.sh and after that try to run the file again.

Let us know how it goes.

Save the output in a CSV, then you should see the complete content for each property.

VM Monitoring Causing OS Corruption

Doh, school boy error... Note to self...Read the prerequisites TWICE, check the system meets them and then RECHECK!.. :-)

Turns out that my vDS had NOT been upgraded from 6.5.0.!! I upgraded it to 7.0.0 and the reconfigure task runs as expected.

I feel a bit silly, but at the same time I expect the wizard to have checked the prerequisites and this should have been flagged.

deppingTheBobkin Would one of you gents be able to flag this to engineering for review in a future release?

Thanks.

What is the rule you got open?

32111 TCP from UAG's to Desktop vLAN

Does it work for anyone or any client?

I'm sorry i should have said that I know how to add an internal app.  I was not seeing where I could add an activation code for the app to run in the Launcher as the only app allowed on the device.

Mark as flash Disk?

$

Hello all, I have a few questions about this feature.

1. What does "Mark as Flash Disk" actually do?

2. Is there an advantage of marking an SSD LUN which is falsely recognized as HDD as Flash Disk, in a non-vSAN cluster. In this case the LUN is presented from a SAN backed by a pool of physical SSD drives.

3. In a scenario where a LUN presented comes from a tiered SAN pool, i.e.: mix of HDD and SSD drives where Software-Defined SAN moves hot\cold blocks up and down from\to HDD and SSD, would it not be recommended to mark that LUN as FLash Disk?

Re: Problem with local deployment of a vcenter plugin

Hi Radoslaw,

Thanks for the through explanation of the problem.

1) This is OK and is not stuck. The screenshot shows that the local plugin sample is deployed and this is the last phase of running the vSphere Client application server locally. You will see more output when the Client is opened in the browser (you don't get to this point).

2) and 3) mean that the local vSphere Client could not reach out / authenticate to the vCenter.

You seem to be following the correct process so let's clarify and verify a few points:

  • The certificate keystore that is at play here is the store.jks that got copied from the vCenter. Please check the location it is present on is correct.
  • You mention using both 7.0 and 6.7 SDKs. Please note that SDK dev environment setup is not an API and cannot be backward compatible in the general case. This means that folks working with a 7.0 vCenter should use the 7.0 SDK and ones with 6.7 vCenter should use the 6.7 SDK. Please check if this is the case in the failing local environments.
  • Here is the dev setup documentation: Online Documentation - Developing Local Plug-ins with the vSphere Client SDK - VMware {code} . It has a manual and automatic flow that can be tried. In any case please check the specifics required for the OS - there are slight setup differences between Windows and MacOS (though most are abstracted out by the server-registration script).
  • Test if the startup script works without --debug <port>

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Vladi

Re: Horizon Client Remote Desktop freezes or very slow while accessing through windows RDP

If I understand this, the VPN typically uses UDP and RDP to PC 2 that uses TCP (So we have TCP running over a UDP tunnel) and then use the Horizon to connect to a desktop what could be using UDP or TCP.

Not sure this is ever going to work well tbh. You could force the VPN to be TCP but RDP is still going to use TCP, this is why PCoIP and Blast work some much better than RDP is due to being able to adapt and use UDP.

Can you not install the Horizon client on PC-1 and connect directly to PC3 and call it a day

New Server Project

Hello! It's been a minute since I last posted here with my own topic. I now have a dedicated ESXi server in the works, and am planning to start using it 24/7 by the end of this year. Here are the specs for the hardware:

CSE  :: HPE ProLiant DL580 G7
CPU  :: 4x Intel Xeon E7-8870's (10c/20t each; 40c/80t total)
RAM :: 64GB (16x4GB) DDR3-1333 PC3-10600R ECC
STR  :: 1x HP 518216-002 146GB HDD (ESXi, VMware Linux Appliance, System ISOs) +
                        1x Western Digital WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB SATA SSD (Virtual Flash) +

                        4x HP 507127-B21 300GB HDDs +

                        1x 500GB Seagate Video ST500VT003 HDD (Remote Development VM)

             1x LSI SAS 9201-16e HBA SAS card (4-HDD DAS) +

                        1x Mini-SAS SFF-8088 to SATA Forward Breakout x4 cable +

                        1x Kingwin MKS-435TL (4x 3.5in HDD cage) +

                        4x HITACHI HUA722020ALA330 HDDs

PCIe :: 1x HP 512843-001/591196-001System I/O board +

                        1x HP 588137-B21; 591205-001/591204-001 PCIe Riser board
GPU :: 1x nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB +

                        2x1x nVIDIA Tesla K10's
SFX  ::  1x Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Rx

NIC   ::  1x SolarFlare SFN5322F +

                        1x HP 491838-001 (NC375i)

FAN  ::  4x Arctic F9PWM 92mm case fans **

PSU  ::  4x 1200W Server PSU's (HP 441830-001/438203-001)

PRP  ::  1x Dell MS819Wired Mouse

Parts marked with * have not been purchased/sourced yet. Those marked with ** are already in-house, but require further planning/modification before they can be added to the server.

As of now, the fans aren't really required for functionality. They were meant to help quiet the server down a bit, but they requiresomemodification to work. This part can wait.

Here is the current software configuration plan for the server:

*  Temporary task that will be replaced by a permanent, self-hosted solution

** Can benefit from port forwarding, but will be primarily tunnel-bound

^  Tunnel-bound (VPN/SSH) role - not port forwarded/exposed to the Internet

+ Active Directory enabled - Single Sign On (SSO)

Here is the current resource allocation plan for the server:

  • VMware nix Appliance     :: 24/7 - true,  dedicatedHDD - false, dedicatedGPU -  false,     2c/4t + 4GB
  • Temporary/Testing VM     :: 24/7 - false,  dedicatedHDD - false, dedicatedGPU -  true,  12c/24t + 20-24GB *
  • Windows  Server  2016     :: 24/7 - true,  dedicatedHDD - true,  dedicatedGPU -  false,    8c/16t + 12-16GB
  • macOS Server 10.14.X      :: 24/7 - true,  dedicatedHDD -  true,  dedicatedGPU -  true,    8c/16t + 12GB
  • Artix Linux - Xfce ISO       :: 24/7 - true,   dedicatedHDD - true,  dedicatedGPU -  false,    8c/16t + 12GB
  • Windows 10 Enterprise    :: 24/7 - false,  dedicatedHDD - true,  dedicatedGPU -  true,  12c/24t + 20-24GB *
  • Remote Development VM :: 24/7 - false, dedicatedHDD -  true,  dedicatedGPU -  true,  12c/24t + 20-24GB *

VMs marked with an * cannot be run at the same time. Only one of them can ever run at any given moment. MacOS and Linux would have gotten a Radeon/FirePro (ie., Rx Vega 64), for best compatibility and stability, but market forces have prevented this. Windows 10 gets the Creative Audigy Rx. The MacOS and Linux VMs get whatever audio the Tesla K10's provide (either that or a software solution). Windows 10, Remote Development, and the Temp/Testing VM will be put to sleep (or offed) until they are needed (Wake on LAN), since they don't host any essential services.

There are three other mirrors for this project, in case you're interested in following individual conversations from the other sites (in addition to this thread).

P.S. Out of all the sites that I've ever used, this forum has one of the best WYSIWYG editors I've used in a while Kudos to the devs!

Test HTTP/2 Connection button

$

In preparation for the retirement of the legacy APNS mechanism in November 2020, I tried using the Test HTTP/2 Connection button in my 19.07.52 console, and I'm getting an error message that the connection failed due to an invalid cert. I recently upgraded our UAT environment to 20.05 from 19.07, and before that, our UAT was also experiencing this error. Now that its on 20.05, that test is successful.

Support wants me to replace my APNS cert in production due to the error, but I don't believe that is necessary based on my experience with my UAT environment. However, I'm wondering if anyone else out there running 1907 (less than the .59 patch) can test this to see if you're experiencing the same issue, or if you have a successful test connection.

Thanks.
